New one day max square record

Stephan Langer has beaten his own “max square in a day” record – raising the benchmark from an already-lofty 15×15 to an (almost?) unbeatable 16×16, achieved in just over 300km of riding and 13 moving hours. Stephan planned the ride meticulously and it appears his choice of riding around Essen in the Ruhr was the right choice of urban, so that the roads are densely packed but not too urban so that the average pace can be kept high enough. What I particularly loved about this achievement was that Stephan actually rode fewer kilometres than his 15×15 ride from last year… the advantages of spending hours poring over the Strava route planner with VeloViewer explorer plugin!

You can read more about Stephan’s ride at the RideEveryTile Strava club. In celebration of Stephan’s achievement, I have separated out the single day tiling records into a new page on this site.Langer16
